TITO NIEVES

With more than three decades of musical history the “Pavarotti” of Salsa is stronger now more than ever, the new single "QUE SEAS FELIZ" extracted from the homonym album has reached the 1º place at the Billboard Tropical.

Tito’s new album has its roots with the Salsa and Tropical music that have made him an icon for almost 40 years, with 18 Top 10 hits from with 6 of them in the first place of the Latin Billboard Airplay Tropical USA.

Humberto Nieves, nicknamed “Tito” was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico and raised in New York, where he nourished his musical predilection for tropical, blues and pop music, always knowing that he was destined to become an accomplished singer. “In 1975, since very young, I decided that music was my calling” explains Tito. “At that point I was full of dreams, and would look at a Fania All Stars photo with all those big artists and all I could think is what I could do to get to them, to be near Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco and Celia Cruz.

At age 15, Tito Nieves recognized his musical calling and set out to conquer the world of salsa. His relentless drive led him to approach Orquesta Cimarron and he quickly became their lead singer up to the late 70’s when Tito joined the great Héctor Lavoe Orchestra. “Héctor took a personal interest in me and became my mentor. He gave me so much support. He was my Idol”.

In the early 80’s, he joined Conjunto Clásico. “During this time I grew musically and, as I shared the stage with Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, it felt like all my dreams had been fulfilled. I was born at the right time, I was fortunate enough to live in an era where I could contribute to, alongside the salsa greats, the evolution of tropical music.”

In 1988, Tito set out on his own as a solo artist signing contract with Ralph Mercado's RMM Records. His first album with RMM, "Classic", which included the hit “Sonámbulo” earned him his first Gold Record. He released the albums, "Déjame Vivir", "Rompecabeza: The Puzzle", "Un Tipo Común", and "Yo Quiero Cantar", which featured the song “I’ll Always Love You” which achieved another Gold certification.

Throughout his career, Tito has contributed to the growth Salsa / Tropical music in english. Included among the timeless classics that Tito has graced with his melodic voice are smash hits such as “Can You Stop the Rain”, “You Bring Me Joy” and “De Mí Enamórate”. However, there was one song that quickly became the anthem of the 90’s and sealed Tito’s place in pop culture history forever, “I Like It Like That” being transformed from the original version into a mainstream success.

“I Like It Like That” was used as the theme song for a movie of the same name. Nationally the song was recognized by conglomerates such as Ritz Crackers, Burger King and Verizon Wireless alongside several TV programs and sporting events, ensuring the song’s success. “One of the most precious gifts that this song offered me was the opportunity to share it with my musical colleague, Stevie Wonder.”

In 2000, Tito signed with Warner Music Latina to release "En Otra Onda" with both “Un Amor Así” and “Como Llegó tu Amor” a duet with the legendary Rubén Blades. His collaboration with Brenda K. Starr and Víctor Manuelle on “Por Ese Hombre” became his first #1 hit on the Billboard Tropical chart in 2002.

In 2004, Tito released his most intimate album "Fabricando Fantasías", Tito says “This album remains a key part of my musical repertoire because it allowed me to grieve the loss of my son. Music is a beautiful thing because it allows us to express our innermost thoughts and feelings that otherwise would remain unspoken”.

The album was a critical and commercial success with both singles, “Fabricando Fantasías” and “Ya No Queda Nada” featuring La India and Nicky Jam reaching the #1 position on Billboard’s Tropical chart. Tito earned another number one hit with “La Gorda Linda” in the early 2005.

Tito also stayed at the forefront of music blending salsa with urban and reggaetón beats on “Terremoto” which featured Hip-Hop’s Latin rapper, Fat Joe.

Tito’s tribute album, "Canciones Clásicas de Marco Antonio Solís" was certified Gold and his salsa version of “Mas Que Tú Amigo” became a #1 international radio smash also winning the Latin Billboard award for Tropical Airplay Song of the Year.
